Sales managers in the commercial heating and renewable energy sector are employed by the manufacturers of heating systems and renewable technologies such as commercial heat pumps. They are tasked with selling commercial heating and renewables products to M&E Consultants, M&E Contractors and Merchants.
This is a business development role, with sales targets to achieve and a specific geographic patch or business sector to cover. Commercial heating and renewables sales managers will generally have support from internal sales colleagues when it comes to generating quotes and may also work closely with specification engineers and design engineers as part of a team.
The role often involves regular site visits and will require adequate time to be set aside for researching the market, building relationships and generating new enquiries.
As a sales manager, you will be expected to combine new business generation with account management.You will be required to manage your time effectively to plan and attend meetings with potential new customers.

Part of the role will involve keeping the company’s CRM system up to date and candidates should be comfortable using this type of software and organised enough to manage and maintain the data effectively.
Commercial heating and renewable energy sales managers are customer facing and will need to be excellent communicators. They will also benefit from having a strong network in their field and a good grasp of the pain points and solutions in their industry.
Heating and renewables sales managers earn upwards of £45,000 with bonus packages pushing on target earnings (OTE) well above this. As with all HVAC sales roles, salaries vary between sectors, according to region and depending on the size of the company.
Sales managers are usually motivated by targets and will be rewarded for success with attractive bonus payments. They also have the satisfaction of guiding a project through from inception to completion. There is a great deal of autonomy with this role and it will suit someone who manages their own time well and enjoys having the flexibility to do so.
