Earlier this month Thornhvac was one of over 70 businesses taking part in a special business breakfast meeting at Garforth Academy to promote partnerships between students and local employers.

As a Leeds business we are very keen to nurture local talent to support our community and hopefully create job opportunities for school leavers who want to build their career with a growing Yorkshire family business.

There was a real buzz about the event and a genuine desire from businesses to engage with the academy and offer support to students in a wide variety of ways such as providing up-to-date careers advice and opportunities for them to increase their knowledge and understanding of the world of work.

The students themselves were enthusiastic about the prospect of gaining real practical everyday business experience and understanding what employers are looking for in a candidate.

As a recruitment company we feel we have a lot of advice to offer on the interview process and will be pursuing ideas that might include assessment centre and interview experience.

We are also very keen to offer work experience to give students a taste of office life and a chance to find out what it’s like to be part of a fun and dynamic team.

By building relationships with students and Garforth Academy we hope to raise awareness of the career opportunities available with Thornhvac for school leavers which include our Management Degree Apprenticeship – a way of studying for a degree whilst gaining work experience and earning a salary as a trainee recruitment consultant. The business skills gained during the degree apprenticeship will be transferable to a wide range of job roles although we hope trainees will choose to stay with us and develop their careers at Thornhvac.

We are looking forward to working more closely with Garforth Academy in the future and getting to know some of the students better over the coming months and years.
