Recruitment Careers: Big firm v small (and our latest apprenticeship opportunities)

Office

If you’re looking to start a career in sales or recruitment you might automatically think bigger is better. It’s a common misconception that larger firms offer more structured training, more scope for career progression and a better buzz.

Nobody would deny that the size of company you work for will make a difference to your workplace environment and everyday office experience, which is why it is worth taking time to think about what will suit you best as an individual.

Bigger firms generally have larger marketing budgets and well-established commission structures and ways of working. Smaller recruiters on the other hand offer a job where you can enjoy greater flexibility and feel like you’re really making a difference.

Then there are companies that offer the best of both worlds – excellent training and career development along with flexible working and a friendly atmosphere.

Thornhvac is one of those recruitment firms that strives to offer the best of both. We may be small in size but our structure and culture have been carefully developed to provide stability and opportunity for everyone who joins our team.

Team is a key word at Thornhvac and this means we work towards company targets rather than setting individual benchmarks. We also have regular team meetings and work hard to make sure everyone feels valued and listened to, an approach that has led to us expanding our apprenticeship scheme to provide opportunities for an even wider range of school leavers who might be looking for a worthwhile alternative to university.

Our apprenticeships

Following the successful introduction of our Management Degree Apprenticeship we are now planning to offer a Sales Apprenticeship for school leavers. Our first Degree Apprenticeship candidates Holly and Pierce are currently developing their business skills as part of our team whilst studying for their degree with the Open University. We fund their studies and provide them with a salary throughout the four year course.  Our new Sales Apprenticeships will be ideal for school leavers who enjoy talking to people, are self-motivated and are keen to develop their sales and communication skills. The apprenticeship is for two years and successful candidates will work as part of our team, earning while they learn.

Our business

Thornhvac has built its reputation as a niche recruitment expert in the HVAC sector, which is currently extremely buoyant and fast-moving. Technology is creating exciting new opportunities and our team is dedicated to helping clients find the right skills to help them grow – as well as supporting ambitious candidates who want to develop their careers.

We have plans to expand our own business into other niche areas over the next 12 months as we grow, making this an excellent time to join us.

Thornhvac is based at Carrwood Park, a family run, state of the art office park in a semi-rural location on the outskirts of Leeds. Carrwood Park is easily accessible from the A1, M1, M621 and M62 and is ideal for anyone travelling from East Leeds, Garforth, Wakefield, Wetherby, Selby and the surrounding areas.
