During the coronavirus crisis, as in any uncertain economic times, candidates are understandably nervous about leaving a secure job to take on a new role. However, although there are fewer HVAC jobs around at the moment, there are also some resilient companies who have weathered the shutdown better than others and are looking to expand operations.

So, should you take a new opportunity now or stay put and weather the storm?

Here are three things to consider to help you make up your mind:

Do your research

One of the best ways of finding out whether the company you are moving to is resilient enough to survive the current crisis is to talk to someone who already works there. If they feel confident about their own future, the chances are it will be a risk worth taking. You can also check the company’s financial status by looking on Companies House.

Examine your motives

Your decision-making process during the coronavirus crisis should be much the same as it would be at any other time. Does the role meet your long-term goals for career progression? Is the company offering products and services that you would be proud to be associated with? If the new job is a step in the right direction, you should consider it very seriously, crisis or no crisis. If the only carrot is a better car or a slight pay rise, stop and think.

Ask an expert

As a specialist HVAC recruiter we have longstanding relationships with the companies we work with. We understand their skills gaps and their future growth plans so we can talk to candidates in depth about the role they are applying for and how they will fit into that longer term business vision. Our objective is always to achieve the best results for candidates as well as clients, so that the placement is successful and sustainable. With that in mind, we will be able to help you decide whether it’s the right move for you.
