With so many factors affecting HVAC sales manager salaries – experience, sector, location, size of company and overall package, to name but a few - it can be hard to accurately come up with a UK wide average.

According to Indeed, the average salary in the UK for an HVAC specification sales manager is currently £44,741 per year and £34,765 per year for an HVAC sales engineer.

On our own website right now, our available jobs for HVAC sales range between £25,000 for an internal sales role to £80,000 for a BMS regional sales manager with an established employer.

Our recent HVAC jobs have included a Specification Sales Manager for an exceptional commercial HVAC company selling top quality products to M&E Consultants and Main Contractors in the South West, with a basic of £55K and bonus to £10K. We have also been recruiting for an Area Sales Manager in the Midlands for a well-known air conditioning manufacturer who was offering a salary of up to £52k+car+bonus. In Newcastle, we have been recruiting for a regional HVAC sales manager with a basic salary to £80K + bonus and good package.

Basic v Bonus

Bonuses can add anything from a few thousand to more than £20k to overall annual income and many sales managers are incentivised by a well-structured bonus package which has the potential to give their salary a significant boost.

Our own research here at Thornhvac has found that HVAC sales engineers and managers prefer to work for well-known brand names that have high quality, innovative products. These sorts of companies may pay a slightly lower basic than smaller manufacturers but the bonus potential is usually far greater.

Take care when comparing salaries

So, should you choose a job with a higher salary or one where the salary is less but the package as a whole is worth more.

Be aware that bonus structures vary hugely. Some offer “up to” a maximum amount. Companies can – and do –shift the boundaries when it comes to bonuses. Read the small print before compromising on guaranteed salary.

The size of company, region, scale of area being covered and type of products being sold will all have an influence on the overall salary package.
